About this rapid, intense and wonderful week with the Dutch Impro Academy, at one point early on, it did not matter much, not impressed me that we have concerts in places like the imposing building of the Bimhuis and rely on the structure of the Conservatory. What captivated me deep in my heart, was the formation of a family with people from various places. The fact that they are all brilliant musicians, in no way exceeded or came close to what everyone sent me spiritually. It has nothing to do with music and notes, is about feelings.

Everyone involved in this great and precious experience of life, won a permanent place in my heart forever. We look forward to soon find them again, remember these wonderful days and again to create the most wonderful moments through the music, the music free.

What a beautiful week we shared together. The openness of the teacher's swiftly spread to hold us all. That was the best "virus" to spread. That is really what I needed to explore my unknown on my instrument. Thank you all for playing music with me as I am leaving Amsterdam tomorrow and bringing back love, inspiration, and a little bit of everyone to Canada.

I've never before been in such a situation where I've been with such like minded musicians who don't think that the basis on a composition (instant or otherwise) should necessarily rely on keys, chord changes and the like. It's been such a refreshing experience to be with people whose main objective is to create a beautiful sonic environment with the people around them.

This week was perhaps the happiest time of my life, and I mean that with the utmost sincerity.

….

Upon arriving at the Cous Cous Club our first evening, I was so nervous! My inner music geek was freaking out at the prospect of meeting all these wonderful musicians whose names I had seen on the backs of strange albums I could not talk to most of my friends about.... but no way. All my delusions of "hero worship" and the nervousness that accompanies such falsities immediately evaporated, as I found that within this special time and place, hierarchy ceased to exist... I'm 22, many people who I spent time with were 19 or 45 or 30 or whatever, up-and-coming performers and established ones... it did not matter one bit, we were all comrades in making beautiful collective music together. All of you are your own virtuosos, completely unique voices and with shocking eloquence in your personal languages capable of speaking both verbally and musically about the most diverse of subjects. And even with this well-honed musical eloquence you all manged to consistently surprise everyone every day of that special week. You're all maestros of the highest order and I am humbled to have had the honor of performing and playing with all of you, and I hope to do so again as soon as humanly possible! The joy of creativity and surprise will stay with me forever, so once again, thank you all for imbuing each other with such inspiration, openness, and spontaneity.

Allereerst wil ik je nog eens heel erg bedanken voor de fantastische week die we hebben gehad tijdens de Dutch Impro Academy. Er is bij mij nog steeds een heerlijk gevoel blijven hangen, als een soort onsterfelijke energie die is overgebleven. En dit is allemaal mogelijk gemaakt door jullie!!!! Bedankt, bedankt, bedankt!
